Basket Privacy Policy

The short version: Basket’s developer collects no personal data. There are no Basket accounts, ads, analytics, tracking, or developer-operated data servers. Your grocery data stays on your device and can sync through your private iCloud when available.

What the app stores, and where

Your grocery catalog and price history. Item names, package sizes, stores, prices, sale status, and dates are stored on your device. When iCloud sync is available, Apple may sync this information through your private iCloud database. Basket’s developer does not receive or inspect it.
Your shopping list and preferences. The items you plan to buy, price-freshness setting, extra-stop threshold, and optional Apple Intelligence setting stay with the app on your device.
Receipt photos and order screenshots. Images you choose are read on your device using Apple’s Vision framework. Basket keeps the prices you confirm, not the source image. The developer does not receive the image or recognized text.

Permissions and Apple services

Camera and photo library. These permissions are optional and used only when you scan a receipt or choose an existing receipt or order screenshot.
Location. If you tap the nearby-store button, Basket asks for your approximate location and uses Apple Maps to search for grocery stores. Basket does not store the location or send it to the developer. Apple handles the search under Apple’s privacy policy. You can type a city or ZIP instead.
Apple Intelligence. On supported devices, you can allow Apple’s on-device language model to help match abbreviated receipt lines to items already in your catalog. The feature is optional and does not send the receipt to Basket’s developer.
iCloud. If iCloud sync is available, grocery data is stored in your private CloudKit database so it can appear on your other devices. The developer does not operate that service or have access to the private database.

Retailer websites and apps

When you choose to check a store price, Basket opens a search on that retailer’s website or app. The retailer receives the search words and the usual technical information sent with an internet request, such as your IP address. For Safeway, Basket can copy the requested item name to the local clipboard before opening the app. These requests do not pass through a Basket server. Each retailer handles information under its own privacy policy.

What the developer does not do

No accounts, sign-ups, or logins.
No analytics, tracking, advertising, or third-party advertising SDKs.
No developer-operated server receiving your grocery data, list, receipts, location, or store searches.
No selling, renting, or using personal data for advertising.

Deleting your data

Deleting an item, store, price entry, or shopping-list entry removes it from Basket. Deleting the app removes its local data from that device. Synced data may remain in your private iCloud and can be managed through Basket or in Settings > Apple Account > iCloud.

Children

Basket is not directed at children under 13. Basket’s developer does not knowingly collect personal data from children or anyone else through the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
